How To Take Screenshots

A screenshot is an image of what is currently displayed on your computer or device screen. Screenshots are useful when reporting technical issues, documenting errors, or providing information to a support team.

This guide explains how to take a screenshot on Windows and save or share it.

 
METHOD 1: Using the Snipping Tool.

The Snipping Tool allows you to capture a specific part of your screen

Steps
  1. Press Windows + Shift + S on your keyboard.

  2. Your screen will become slightly darker.

  3. Select the area of the screen you want to capture.

  4. The screenshot will be copied to your clipboard.

  5. Click the notification that appears to open the screenshot.

  6. Click Save to save the screenshot to your preferred location.

 

METHOD 2: Using the Print Screen Key

You can capture the entire screen using the Print Screen (PrtScn) key.

  1. Press PrtScn on your keyboard.

  2. The screenshot will be copied to your clipboard.

  3. Open an application such as Microsoft Paint or Microsoft Word.

  4. Press Ctrl + V to paste the screenshot.

  5. Save the image

 

METHOD 3: Windows + Print Screen

To automatically save a screenshot:

  1. Press Windows + PrtScn.

  2. The screen may briefly dim.

  3. The screenshot will automatically be saved.

  4. Open File Explorer.

  5. Go to Pictures - Screenshots

 

Taking a Screenshot of the Active Window

To capture only the window, you are currently using:

  1. Click on the window you want to capture.

  2. Press Alt + PrtScn.

  3. Open Paint, Word, or another application.

  4. Press Ctrl +V.

  5. Save the screenshot.
